Meets Mondays at 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Boy Scout Troop 518 began with 9 Boy Scouts when they came to Red Bank United Methodist Church in 2006. In 2007, we had our first Eagle Court with J. P. McManus, a member of our church, becoming the first Eagle Scout from Troop 518 in many years and the first from RBUMC. In 2012, Eagle Honor Courts were held for Cody Kyzer, West Cassity, Thomas Cole, A. J. Todd and Mason Rodgers. In 2013, Eagle Scout honored were Colby Steele and Nathan Middleswarth. In 2014 Eagle Rank was achieved by Beck Cassity, Harland Stevens and Jacob Garrett . In 2015 our Eagle Scouts was Prem Chockalingam and in 2016 Caleb Thompson. The troop has expanded greatly under the leadership of Eric Cassity, an Eagle Scout and Wood Badge Scouter.  We currently have 45 Scouts on the roster and looking to receive as many as 8 Arrow of Light Scouts in March 2017. These young men work very hard in upholding all points of the Scout Law, participating in community events and assisting RBUMC at church events such as unloading pumpkins and parking at the RBUMC Christmas concert. In 2016/2017 the Boy Scouts participated in the God and Country program earning the Bishop’s Award for Excellence in Scouting. Troop 518 plans many exciting campouts such as sports shooting, snow skiing, hiking, ziplining, white water rafting and they attended the Indian Waters Camporee.

In 2014, 8 scouts and 3 adult leaders traveled to Bechtel, WV to attend The Summit, BSA’s newest high adventure camp for Boy Scouts. They zip lined, mountain climbed, repelled, shot guns, archery, white water rafting and canoeing through the mountains of West Virginia on the first week the Summit opened. It was the ultimate high adventure week for the Scouts. In 2015 a patrol attended SeaBase in Florida. They spent a week on the high seas learning nautical skills and exploring reefs, snorkeling and swimming. In 2016 a Boy Scout patrol and members of Venturing Crew 518 attended Northern Tier participating in a canoeing expedition in Northern Minnesota. In 2017 the Troop will travel to Philmont High Adventure Camp in Cimarron, NM to hike the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rocky Mountains. The Troop currently has 19 Scout leaders and 45 Scouts.

Meets Thursdays at 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Venturing Crew 518 was formed in 2008.  This is the branch of Boy Scouts of America that is high adventure and co-ed.  It is open to teenagers, both boys and girls aged 14 – 21.  In past years the Crew attended sports shooting and aquatics events at Camp Barstow. They participated in camping, skeet shooting, rifle shooting, archery, kayaking, sailing, skiing, snow tubing, camping and canoeing. In 2015, the crew added caving to their long list of adventures. The Crew is currently recruiting new members and planning an exciting 2023 year.

Meets Tuesdays at 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Cub Scout Pack 518 joined Red Bank United Methodist Church in 2004 with 25 Cub Scouts.  Today we have approximately 35 Cub Scouts ranging from 1st to 5th grade.  Cub Scouts participate in the annual Pinewood Derby races at the Pack and District level. Building a pinewood derby car with a parent is one of the highlights of the year. The Pack camps twice a year and the Cub Scouts learn to survive outdoors and respect our land. Our Cub Scouts are active in sending letters to military personnel, the Boiling Springs Christmas parade, Scouting for Food, God and Country Program , Bishops Award of Excellence in Scouting and achieving rank and progress towards Boy Scouts.

Cub Scouts learn about our country’s flag, its history, proper care and respect for what it represents.

Character Development

Cub Scouts learn about the perseverance, resourcefulness and courage of the pioneers who founded our country.

Sportsmanship and Fitness

Cub Scouts will enjoy outdoor activities and will learn the benefits of personal fitness and being a good sport.

Fun and Adventure

Cub Scouts will enjoy the opportunity to play in and enjoy the great outdoors.

Perseverance

Cub Scouts will learn to tackle new skills.

Preparation for Boy Scouts

Cub Scouts will begin learning skills as they move along the trail that will prepare them to join a Troop.

Our leaders are fully trained in accordance with Boys Scouts of America’s standards. 

Cub Scout Pack 518 combats Nature- Deficit Disorder by:

Participating in the Indian Waters Council events and implementing a full and fun outdoor program. Family camping is twice a year, first campout is in the fall with our second campout in the spring.

SCOUTING WITH PACK 518

Most Dens will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 7:30pm at Red Bank UMC in the Sunday School classes. Although the evening your den meets depends on your Den Leader.

Pack Meetings are held monthly, the 4th Tuesday of each month at Red Bank UMC Fellowship Hall, unless a campout or special event is held that month. Special events, such as family camping, serve as our Pack Meetings.

Scouting for Food – the 1st two weekends in February.

Scout Sunday – 2nd weekend in February.

Blue and Gold Banquet – Each den achieves the rank they worked on all year and Webelos II move onto Boy Scouts.

Fund Raising – Pack 518 sells popcorn every year. Every Cub Scout family is asked to participate by selling popcorn. The commissions earned by this event funds awards and special events for each Cub Scout. Last year Pack 518 spent over $2000.00 for awards, earned by the boys and presented at Pack Meetings.

God and Country – Pack 518 offers this program to the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. This worthwhile program earns the Pack the Bishops Award of Excellence in Scouting since 2008.
